Where: National park Sierras de Tejeda
Length: 10 km
Difficulty: you'll sweat a lot and your little heart will get a workout
Attractions: beautiful views; the village at the start has no streets, just alleys and stairs
Leave your car at the parking lot in Frigiliana. You won't get any further anyway. It's all on foot, at most you'll meet a loaded donkey.
Climb to the top of the village, you'll find the two small remains of the guard towers of the castle. We're not very high up yet, but the views are worth it.
A bit of a scramble to get down below the top to the old Moorish water reservoir. Here and there you can see remnants of aqueducts and canals, but the locals deal with water transport in the classic way - through pipes that simply run along the surface and don't even try to be aesthetic. The trail to the top of El Fuerte starts at the corner of the reservoir. It's the one on the left.
And then you just pedal and huff and puff your way up :-)
It's quiet at the top and the views...

It is highly recommended to bring plenty of water, sunglasses, sunscreen and a head cover. Some sugar is also useful.
Also consider the time you'll be going. Getting up in the morning on vacation isn't a big deal, but if the sun catches you overhead on the way up (here, it's around 2 or 3 pm), you'll be queasy.
